- 400 gr brisket, cut into bite size
- 6 small tomatoes or 2 medium tomatoes
- 5 cabbage leaves, roughly cut some bird eye chili peppers (to taste-optional)
- 2 green onions, cut 1 inch
- 1 Tbsp curry powder
- 2 lemongrass, bruised
- 3-4 kaffir lime leaves
- 2 Tbsp vegetable oil
- 350 ml water
- 1 Tbsp salt or to taste
- 1/2 tsp white pepper powder or to taste
- 1/2 tsp sugar
- 1/2 tsp beef bouillon
- 2-3 Tbsp sweet soy sauce
- fried shallots for garnish
- Ground spices:
- 4 cloves garlic
- 6 cloves shallots
- 6 red chili peppers
- 3 bird eye chili peppers (optional)
- 1 inch ginger
- 3 nutmeg
Steps to make Beef Tongseng
- Heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Sauté ground spices, lemongrass, and kaffir lime leaves until fragrant.
Add curry powder. Mix well. - Add beef. Cook until the meat change color. Remove from the heat.
- Place the meat in a slow cooker. Add water, salt, sugar, white pepper powder, and beef bouillon. Cover the pot. Cook on high for 4 hours.
- Add cabbage, tomatoes, green onions, bird eye chili peppers (if you use some), and sweet soy sauce. Cook again for 15 minutes. Remove the pot.
- Serve immediately over steamed with rice and garnish with fried shallots! Yum 😋
